How To ...

Note : The Original Art graphics are best viewed with your color settings at higher than 256 colors.  If you don't know how to adjust your settings (and you're running under Windows), email me and I'll give you detailed instructions.

You're also going to need a *zip* utility program to open any downloads.   If you don't already have one, go to any of the sites on my Free Software page and find one you like.

The best place to begin browsing for matched sets is with the Bordered and Textured pages - that's where you'll find each background that generated the buttons and bar for its design.  The Original Art pages don't come with a bar or buttons (yet), but check them out anyway - they're really neat and make great backgrounds for web pages, email, or as wallpaper for your desktop.

To see each background, border or artwork as desktop wallpaper, click on the image with your right mouse button and choose "Set As Wallpaper" - this places a full-screen copy on your desktop.

If you want to see the image as a webpage background, you can do either of the following:

1.)  Download Background Tester and unzip it to your graphics folder, then click the *.exe* file. This is a very small, easy-to-use program - just drag an image or a filename to the little program window and it'll display that image in your browser as a full webpage background (if you just get a small image, click the *V* in the program window and it'll become a *T* to tile the image).

Use the *Back* button on your browser to return to my webpage for further viewing or to copy the image.

2.)  Copy the image (as instructed below) and then type the image filename into the BODY tag of your webpage as follows:
BODY BACKGROUND="filename"
where "filename" is the name of the graphic you want as your background.

You can also create a quick test page in your NotePad or editor by typing the following code (be sure to enclose each line with the < and > symbols):
HTML
BODY BACKGROUND="filename"
/BODY
/HTML
Save this as an *.htm* document in the same directory as your copied images and then open it to see the full page background. You can switch images by just changing the filename, but make sure that all the image files are in the same directory where you saved the .htm document that you created.

Once you find an image you want to copy, right-click on it, choose "Save Picture As" and then put it in some directory where you can find it later :)  Since you'll probably want to save several, it would be a good idea to create a new directory called "Graphics", or something like that, and keep them all in one easy-to-find place.

Please DO NOT link your graphics to this address - doing so not only slows things down terribly for everyone and needlessly consumes bandwidth, but since I'll be changing them from time to time, the graphic you thought you were linking is likely to be quite different from what is actually here.  Also, if my server happens to be down (which does happen on occasion), you and your visitors will be looking at a blank spot where an image should be.

Need Help?

If you need any help with copying/saving images, creating custom colors, ordering something, or whatever, send me an email and I'll do my best to help you.  Please try to keep it relevant - don't ask how to fix your 1979 Toyota, or how to achieve world peace, or why Macs can't right-click with only one button :)

On the subject of Macs - there are some differences between the methods I describe here for PCs and the way that Macs work.  I'm assuming that Mac owners have read their manuals for instructions on how to copy/save images and view source codes.  I'll try to help if you have problems, but since I've never worked on one I can't guarantee the results of those efforts.  Maybe some helpful soul out there who's familiar with those boxes might volunteer to assist with questions as they arise.

Any and all comments/suggestions/requests are welcome - send me an email or use the Comment form provided on the Order page and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
